The Prophet Motif

Meeting the Divine Challenge today

Who is a Prophet?

What is prophecy?

Are there messages for us today, and how might we recognise them?

All Abrahamic faiths are rooted in revelation, with particular individuals accepting God's call to deliver a message and to challenge people with that message.

However there are subtle differences and special understandings of prophecy in each Abrahamic faith that influences the way we experience the divine challenge and our aspirations to follow God's will. Is prophecy just in the past? Can there be prophecy now? If so, what is the message today? What sort of people were prophets?

This conference will explore the historical, social and spiritual dimensions of prophets and how we might hear God's voice and meet the divine challenge for our own times in a variety of different ways and with the unique JCMA mix of studying, discussing, praying, eating and sharing as we get to meet each other as people of faith in Australia.

JCMA aims to enable people of faith to deepen their understanding of Judaism, Christianity and Islam in Australia today by meeting, engaging with and learning from Jews, Christians and Muslims.

The conference centre is set in expansive grounds with views across the Yarra Valley. It provides a relaxing environment conducive to both personal reflection and warm, open meetings and discussions.

Either single or shared accommodation is available. All rooms have basins.

All food will be strictly Halal. Meals in which meat is served will not be prepared with any dairy products, and no seafood or pork products will be served. Vegetarian options will be available at each meal. Packaged kosher meals will be available for those who request them at time of booking.

Registration & selection procedure

1. The number of participants is limited to 75 people. An appropriate balance of participants from all three faith traditions is sought, representing a wide spread of experiences and communities.

2. JCMA anticipates that there may be more applications than there are places available, in which case a selection procedure will be applied.

3. JCMA seeks a balance of lay men and women, clergy, academics, those working in support or welfare roles and tertiary students

4. Application forms are available from the JCMA Office (03 9650 3294) or from the JCMA website (www.jcma.org.au).

5. A $50 refundable deposit maybe required with the application. Deposits will be refunded to unsuccessful applicants & are also refundable for cancellations until 7 days before the conference.

6. Applications are requested 30 days before the conference. Initial places will be allocated and applicants notified 14 days before the conference begins.

7. Successful applicants will be required to confirm their registration by payment of the registration fee within 14 days of notification.

If the fee is not received within this time the place may be offered to other applicants. Late offers of places may therefore be issued to those who were unsuccessful on the first application.

8. If there are still places available after the first round of offers, late applications will be considered.
